Bart grew up in Fort Smith, AR and shot his first duck at age six. Duck hunting had been a tradition for generations on both his mother’s and father’s side of the family. Bart’s father was an avid hunter and loved spending time helping his son learn the finer points of the sport. After the Gillespies relocated to North Carolina, they continued to return to the family Arkansas hunting land every year for duck season.
During Bart’s former career in the furniture business, he spent his leisure and vacation time hunting and sport fishing. He has had the good fortune to pursue sailfish and marlin in some of the world’s most beautiful places. In 1994, Bart set a goal to hunt every day of the duck season. In order to achieve his goal, he took a job as a guide and enjoyed it so much that he did it again the following season. After two years working as a guide, Bart started his own company and Grand Prairie Guide Services was launched.
Now with the help of professional guides Chris Davis, and his wife Rebecca, Bart and Chris hosts duck hunting guests from all over the country and Canada. After twenty five years of guiding, Bart still eagerly anticipates the arrival of the cool autumn air and the millions of migrating mallards. There’s nothing he’d rather do than spend 60 days each year sharing his expertise and love of duck hunting the Arkansas Grand Prairie with clients and friends.
